The Affordable Care Act (sometimes called Obamacare). It is a comprehensive reform law, enacted in 2010, that increases health insurance coverage for the uninsured and implements reforms to the health insurance market.

Critical Race Theory. Scholars who study critical race theory in education look at how policies and practices in K-12 education contribute to persistent racial inequalities in education, and advocate for ways to change them
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA is a United States immigration policy. It allows some individuals who, on June 15, 2012, were physically present in the United States with no lawful immigration status after having entered the country as children at least five years earlier, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for an employment authorization document (work permit).
Environmental Protection Agency. The mission of EPA is to protect human health and the environment.
The H-2B visa program allows U.S. employers or U.S. agents who meet specific regulatory requirements to bring foreign nationals to the United States to fill temporary nonagricultural jobs.
Head Start programs support children’s’ growth from birth to age 5 through services centered around early learning and development, health, and family well-being.
Dept. of Health and Human Services.. The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A federal law enforcement agency under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. ICE’s stated mission is to protect the United States from cross-border crime and undocumented immigration that threaten national security and public safety.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 enhanced or created more than 20 tax incentives for clean energy and manufacturing. It is a landmark United States federal law which aims to curb inflation by printing and spending more money, lowering prescription drug prices, and investing into domestic energy production while promoting clean energy.
The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the president of the United States to deploy U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops within the United States in particular circumstances, such as to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion.
In Vitro Fertilization. This is a medical procedure whereby an egg is fertilized by sperm in a test tube or elsewhere outside the body.
The Medicaid program pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited income and resources.
A Pell Grant is a subsidy the U.S. federal government provides for students who need it to pay for college. They usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.
President’s Interagency Task Force monitors and combats person trafficking and support victims.
Roe v Wade was the Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling that recognized that the decision whether to continue or end a pregnancy belongs to the individual, not the government. This was reversed by Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization in 2023.

Sexually Transmitted Disease An infection transmitted through sexual contact, caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites.
The Title I (1) program is a federally funded program authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. It helps disadvantaged students meet state academic content and performance standards.
Title X (10) of the Public Health Service Act, established in 1970, provided federal funding for family planning services. Comprehensive family planning providers offer youth and people with low-incomes a full range of birth control, STI services, pregnancy testing and options counseling, and cancer screenings.
14th Amendment grants citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States. And, for the first time, guaranteed all Americans equal protection under the laws. It gave the federal government the power to protect individuals even if their state legislatures had passed discriminatory laws. Some believe that this includes fetuses from the time of fertilization.
